The best internal shutters suited for use as a room divider would be bifold plantation shutters that have a tracking system to support the weight of the panels. These will stack to one side when you need to use or open up your space.
The second best or alternative would be sliding plantation shutters.
The third option is our fixed plantation shutters, a U-channel frame that will be fixed to the top and bottom of your window opening, or ceiling and floor. The shutter panels will sit inside the U-Channel and can be used as a room divider for your space or wall opening.
They’re popular for wall openings. A wall opening is an existing wall within your home that has a opening or cutout. A lot of newer homes have a wall opening and usually feature a wall that will divide the living room or study nooks and lofts. Our fixed plantation shutters can be placed within these openings with our U-Channel top & bottom frame.
They’re also another great option for standard windows that do not open.
Technically, you can use fixed shutters with a long top and bottom U-channel covering ceiling to floor similar to a wall to divide your space or room. The best suited option would be bi-fold shutters on a track or sliding shutters if you are strictly using them as a wall divider.
Technically they can be, if you are okay with the panels not moving, or sliding out of the way when you need the space, as the panels will be fixed into place. You can lift the panels out of the U-Channels if needed, but you’d need to find somewhere to put them.
If you need fixed shutter panels for a window wall opening in your home that divides two rooms, they are very well suited.
You’ll need to decide which type of shutter best suits your application first and then navigate to the product pages for each.
For use as a Room Divider:
Bi-Fold Plantation Shutter with Track: Best suited. We’re working hard to make them available on our website.
Sliding Plantation Shutters: Second best choice. We’re working hard to make them available on our website.
Fixed Plantation Shutters: Third choice (Not Ideal unless first two options are not avaialble)
Double Hinged Shutters: These are not suited for use as a room divider, as they are basically a Bi-fold shutter without a track. When installed ceiling to floor, the panels are too heavy and cannot be used in this way.
For use within a Wall Opening as a Room Divider:
Bi-Fold w/ Track or Fixed Shutters
