Effortlessly determine the dimensions of your corner windows for custom designer curtains featuring curved tracks.

Welcome to our straightforward tutorial on measuring your corner windows for your fresh custom designer curtains equipped with 90-degree curved tracks. Prepare to be delighted by how swift and effortless the process is.

You can also find guides for standard or double curtains and for those dealing with those tricky bay and box window setups, we’ve got a specialised guide just for you. Let’s make this curtain game a piece of cake, shall we?

Prior to getting started:

Take note: not all curtain tracks are compatible with curved curtains.

Our curved tracks are exclusively offered in our standard designer and motorised  track style ; half moon tracks are not an option. If you have a preference for half moon tracks or wish to coordinate your curved tracks with half moon ceiling tracks, please opt for  butting tracks . To acquire butting tracks, please place your order through the standard curtain product page rather than the curved curtains section. Be assured that the appropriate curtain track profile will be presented to you on the curved curtain product page.

Have you verified the angle(s) of your corner window?

Our 90-degree curved tracks elegantly complement corners with precise right angles, enhancing the aesthetic appeal when gracefully wrapped around them. Additionally, you have the option to merge the two by requesting a track suitable for multiple corners.

Easily determine your window angle by referring to our detailed guide below.

Contact us to place an order for a curved track accommodating more than two corners, and we’ll assist you in achieving your desired visual outcome.

Concerned about angles other than 90 degrees? No problem at all. Contact us, and we’ll guide you through the measuring process. We have bending machines that can accommodate custom angles separate to what is available on our website in 90 and 135 degrees.

Have you planned the fit of your curtains?

Let the excitement begin! If you’ve already pinpointed the ideal fit for your windows, you’re all set. If not, don’t worry—we’ll guide you through the design options below.

Does your area feature cornices?

You can choose to hang curtains on your wall or within ceiling  cornices , depending on your preference.

Are you aware of the surface where your curtains will be fixed?

Our curtains can be fixed to most surfaces, but it’s wise to research beforehand.  Wall studs  and  ceiling battens  are typically the easiest to attach to.

Have you considered motorisation?

Experience luxury every day by installing effortless, motorised curtains in your home. Silent Glide’s custom tracks with premium wired and battery-powered motors are suitable for any sized window. Simply include motorisation in your order to achieve your desired aesthetic.

Wired motors are ideal for new homes or renovations. With assistance from your electrician, you can strategically plan to conceal your motor and wiring. For instance, if you desire double motorised curtains, you can hide the wiring between your tracks.

Please note that motorisation is not available for curtains with multiple openings or free-flow tracks.

Alright, it’s time to kick off the measuring process. Let’s break it down step by step.

Ensure you take your measurements in millimeters (mm).

Select Ceiling or Wall Fit

Step 1: Verify your corner angles

Ensure that the angle of your corner window or wall is precisely 90 degrees – a right angle. To confirm a proper fit for tracks within your corner, hold up an A4 piece of paper; if it fits snugly, you’ve got a 90-degree corner. When wrapping around a corner, ensure it’s at a 90-degree bend as well.

Don’t forget, if you need a curved track for more than 2 corners, simply reach out to us.

Should you have any doubts or if your angles vary, feel free to get in touch, and we’ll gladly assist you.

When Measuring for 2 corners, navigate to step 3.

Step 2: Determine your widths – 1 Corner Curtain

Remember to determine if your curtains will fit into your corner or wrap around it, as you’ll select your preference during the ordering process. Then proceed to step B for wall-to-wall curtains or step C for curtains framing your corner window.

Remember to determine if your curtains will fit into your corner or wrap around it, as you’ll select your preference during the ordering process. Then proceed to step B for wall-to-wall curtains or step C for curtains framing your corner window.

curved_measure_2b

To ensure your curtains cover wall-to-wall on both sides of your corner, first measure the width of your ceiling from the corner out to the left and record it. Then measure the width of your ceiling from the corner out to the right and record that measurement too. If you have cornices, measure from the inside of your  cornices.  These two measurements will determine your  track  width.

If you have wall-to-wall windows or doors, a one-way draw curtain stack back will take up approximately 30% of the track width/window. If center opening, it will be approximately 15% of your track width/window on either side.

You don’t need to make any adjustments for your track curve. And don’t worry about measuring the fabric needed; we’ll take care of that based on your track width.

curved_measure_2c

To frame your corner window with curtains, start by measuring the width of your ceiling from the corner out to the left outside edge of your window frame or recess, and record it. Then, measure from the corner out to the right outside edge of your  window frame  or  recess , and record that measurement as well. If you have  cornices , measure from the inside of them.

Next, add at least 30% to both the left and right measurements to ensure your curtains stack off your glass properly, and write down these adjusted measurements. These two measurements will determine your  track  width. Ensure there is enough room on the wall to accommodate your new track width.

No adjustments are necessary for your track curve, and there’s no need to worry about measuring fabric; we’ll handle that for you based on your track width.

Step 3: Determine your widths – 2 Corner Curtains

curved_measure_a

Take note for each corner whether your curtains will fit into the corner or wrap around it. You’ll select your preference for each corner during the ordering process. Then proceed to step B for wall-to-wall curtains or step C for curtains framing your left and right windows.

To ensure your curtains span wall to wall on all three sides, follow these steps:

1. Measure the width of your ceiling from the left corner outward to the left, and record this measurement.
2. Next, measure the width of your ceiling across the middle wall, and jot down this measurement.
3. Finally, measure the width of your ceiling from the right corner outward to the right, and make a note of this measurement. If you have  cornices measure from the inside of the cornices. These three measurements will determine your  track  width.

If you have wall-to-wall windows or doors, a one-way draw curtain stack back will take up approximately 30% of the track width/window. If center opening, it will be approximately 15% of your track width/window on either side.

No adjustments are necessary for track curves. You need not worry about calculating fabric requirements; we will handle that based on your track width.

curved_measure_3c

To ensure your curtains perfectly frame your left and right windows, follow these steps:

1. Measure the width of your ceiling from the left corner outward to the left outside edge of your  window frame  or  recess,  and record this measurement.
2. Then, measure the width of your ceiling above your middle window, and make a note of this measurement.
3. Finally, measure the width of your ceiling from the right corner outward to the right outside edge of your window frame or recess, and jot down this measurement. If you have  cornices,  measure from the inside of your cornices.

To ensure your curtains stack off your glass, add at least 30% to your left and right measurements, and record these adjusted values. These adjusted left, and right measurements along with the original middle measurement will determine your  track  width. Ensure you have enough wall space to accommodate the new left and right expanded track widths.

No adjustments are necessary for track curves, and there’s no need to calculate fabric requirements; we’ll handle that for you based on your track width.

Step 4: Measure your splits, totally optional.

182.-Split-for-ceiling-mount-single-split-17

For multiple openings, you have the option to select up to 2 splits and specify their exact locations. Splitting your curtains is particularly beneficial for bi-fold and sliding doors, allowing easy access to different sections.

Indicate the number of splits desired and select the side(s) of your corner window for placement. If split measurements aren’t provided, we’ll evenly space them for you.

If you prefer not to have any splits, you can proceed to step 5.

measuring_one_split

For a single custom split, measure the width from the left side across to the designated split point and record it. Ensure you measure on the wall where your split will be positioned.

*If measuring for a split on the left section of your window frame (not the middle or right section), and where you are framing your window, start your measurement from where your track will start on the ceiling and not at the start of the edge of the wall. Record this measurement. This will ensure the split measurement is accurate for your left section. Note: Do not do this if you have measured wall to wall, this should only be done if you are framing your window with curtains.

measuring_two_splits

To create two custom splits, measure the widths from the left side to each split position and note them down. Ensure you measure on the respective walls where the splits will be placed.

*If measuring one or both splits on the left section of your window frame (not the middle or right section), and where you are framing your window, start your measurement from where your track will start on the ceiling and not at the start of the edge of the wall. Record this measurement. This will ensure the split measurement is accurate for your left section. Note: Do not do this if you have measured wall to wall, this should only be done if you are framing your window with curtains.

Step 5: Measure the drop

To measure for a single corner curtain, follow these steps:

1. Measure from your ceiling down to the floor on the left wall, in the corner, and on the right wall. If you have cornices, measure from the inside of your cornice.
2. Note down the largest measurement among the three.

To measure for two corner curtains, follow these steps:

1. Measure from your ceiling down to the floor on the left wall, middle wall, and right wall. If you have cornices, measure from the inside of your cornice.
2. Record the largest measurement among the three.

If the difference between your three measurements is greater than 10 mm, opt for puddling.

Step 6: Select your preferred finish.

When designing and ordering your curtains, select from the three options below.

Please provide only the exact measurements, without making any deductions or additions. We will make the necessary adjustments to ensure you receive the perfect finish.

If you opt for curtains  just off the floor they will be approximately 5 – 10 mm shorter than your drop measurement and will hover just above your floor.

If you prefer curtains  touching the floor , they will skim your floor by up to 5 mm.

For  puddling  curtains, they will puddle on your floor by 20 mm. If you desire a larger puddle, please let us know in the comment section during checkout.

270. Choose the finish-34

Step 7: Select your wand, stacking preference, and track flow.

Make a note of the  wand  size you require. It may seem obvious, but the longer your drop, the larger your wand should be to ensure easy accessibility.

Indicate whether you prefer a  left stack,   right stack,   centre opening,  or multiple openings for your curtains. Consider which side is the most convenient to reach and free from obstructions, as well as which part of your window you anticipate opening frequently. If you opt for motorisation and select center opening curtains, specify the side for your motor placement. Please note that motorisation is not an option for curtains with multiple openings. Rest assured, we will ensure that your motor fits without requiring adjustments to your measurements.

Upon ordering, decide between a  fixed flow  track and a  free flow  track. A free flow track grants you complete flexibility in how you open and stack your curtains. However, please be aware that motorisation is not available for free flow tracks.

Note: Do not do this if you have measured wall to wall, this should only be done if you are framing your window with curtains.

Step 5: Measure your drop

Use a pencil to measure and mark where your curtains will commence – indicating the top of your curtain track. Utilise your ceiling or window frame as a reference to ensure a level starting point across the top. Keep in mind, hanging your curtains from  wall studs  is recommended for optimal support.

To measure curtains for a single corner window, start by measuring the distance from where the curtains will hang down to the floor on the left wall, then measure the same on the right wall. Finally, measure the distance in the corner itself. Note down the largest of these three measurements.

To measure curtains for a window with two corners, measure from where the curtains will begin down to the floor on the left wall, the middle wall, and the right wall. Note down the largest of these three measurements.

Opt for puddling if there’s a difference of more than 10 mm between your three measurements.

Step 6: Select your preferred finish.
