Curtain Tracks

We’ll only show you the relevant tracks on the order page that are compatible with the curtain heading you have chosen.

Based off the track you choose, we will automatically deduct or add a little amount to ensure your curtains fit the track you’ve chosen. No need to make any adjustments. All you need to do is follow our measurement instructions carefully, and let us know where you want your Curtain Track to start at (from the very top bracket of it!), we will include the track and Curtain within this measurement if you ordered one together. Please consult the measuring page for full instructions.

Standard Track

The Curtain will sit just above the track, hiding it from view.

Standard Double Track (Double Bracket)

Same as the above standard track, however there is two of them on the one bracket. Perfect to combine Sheers and a Blockout fabric together for day & night privacy.

28mm Decorator Track Rod

This track appears to look like a standard Curtain Rod, however it is in fact a track with gliders for better ease of use. Fully customisable with different finials and end caps, you are also able to choose from a range of colours. The Curtain will sit so that the rod is slightly exposed for all to see.

28mm Decorator Track Rod + Standard Track (Double Bracket)

For those who still want the look of a decorator track, but still need day & night privacy. We place a 28mm Decorator Track Rod on the front, and a standard track at the back. The most popular choice is to use a blockout lined solid on the front track, with a sheer on the track behind closest to your window.

If you are using Wavefold we will also show this track option, the front Curtain will be Wavefold, the back track will however need to use a standard track and as such will need to use a pencil, pinch, or box pleat heading.

The standard track on the back is a slightly different square design compared to our other standard tracks, it will be colour matched to the colour you chose on your decorator track rod.

Standard Wavefold Track

This is our standard Wavefold track that has a slim and sleek square profile. They can also be combined onto a double bracket.

Double Wavefold Track

Two standard Wavefold tracks on a double bracket for day & night privacy.

Ladder Tape

Our woven fabric ladder tape (made from polyester) is a great optional alternative to the standard string ladder. It not only assures you of greater light control by covering the ladder holes punched into the Venetian blade, but also offers a design aspect that is simply timeless.

Optional Piping

Piping adds to the design of your Pelmet. It is an optional extra and costs slightly more as the piping is made from the same fabric as your Pelmet. You can choose to have the same colour piping or use a contrasting colour for a truly unique look

Projection & Face Sizes

Projection Size

This is the amount by which your Pelmet Protrudes out into your room from the wall. Please consult the measuring page to determine the projection size you need.

Face Size

This is the vertical height of the face on your Pelmet. 200mm is the Recommended size (This is the sizing in our product photos also). 300mm is considered a more traditional size, you may prefer to use this size if you have higher ceilings

Vertical Slat Sizes

127mm Slats

Our most popular slat size when it comes to vertical blinds, these louvres look great in larger windows, offering more coverage, more chance to enjoy our stunning fabrics and much fewer gaps between slats. Fewer gaps always mean less light leakage. This slat size is also priced better than our 89mm option.

89mm Slats

Our 89mm slats are a stylish alternative and are great for hanging in smaller windows. They fit the space much more neatly and compactly. They’re great for larger windows too, if that’s what you prefer. Our golden rule is always to match slat sizes across multiple windows, so if you have a smaller window that suits 89mm we reckon it’s a good idea to go with them across the board.

Aluminium Back Battens

Our standard Roman Blinds come with sewn in pockets. Roman blinds are not flat like a piece of glass, they are made of material that moves,
expands and contracts in different directions. Further to this, sewing of the batten pockets
places the fabric under tension and can cause puckering or ripples. To eliminate this, consider
using the Ultraslim Aluminium batten system.

Blinds to Line Up

When ordering multiple Roman blinds for the same room that need to be side by side and are different drops, the battens will not line up unless we are aware of this and adjust the base panel on the blinds to suit.

Blockout

Our fabrics are stapled with a 3 pass blockout lining backing, this stops all light from passing through the fabric and provides better insulation and thermal properties. Blockout lining will better protect your furniture and floors from harsh UV rays.

Sheers & Voiles

Sheer fabric is fabric which is made using thin thread and/or low density of knit and which results in a semi-transparent and flimsy lightweight cloth. Voile is a soft, sheer fabric, usually made of 100% cotton or cotton blended with linen or polyester. The term is French for veil.

Our interior specialists will give you our top recommendations and advice, just like an in home consult. All we’ll need is some photos of your Rooms & Windows from your smart phone. We can handle the decide step completely for you to take out all the hassle, after all not everyone has knowledge about colours and interiors, or is a interior decorator!

Once you’ve decided on your product and colours or we’ve helped you decide through our free quote & style advice form, it’s time to get your Free Samples. We send samples out because computer monitors don’t always display the colour correctly. This will also help you visualise what it will look like in person so you can make your final purchase decision.

Follow our simple How to Measure Guides available inside of our website, It only takes minutes. Your measurements are protected by our SureFit™ Guarantee, we’ll replace your product free of charge if you measured incorrectly*. We’ll provide full technical support & help if you need it. All custom-made products are warranted to be free from manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. This warranty includes all materials, mechanisms (cord locks and tilts gears) and components (brackets, wands, caps, etc.) which make up the blind or shade. In the event a MyDirectBlinds.com.au custom-made product is found to be defective in materials or workmanship, or we have made the product at incorrect measurements than what you supplied – we will, at our discretion, repair, or replace the product which fails to conform to this warranty. You must have received your product to qualify for this policy. Original Product must be donated to charity with proof of donation or destroyed with photographic proof, please keep original packaging for easy shipment in case we do request the original to be returned (at our cost). Prior authorization with MyDirectBlinds.com.au is required for replacement products. Limit one replacement per product, 3 per lifetime of customer. Replacement must be for the same window with no large disparity in measurements (Different products require minor changes in measurements). Once you’ve had a replacement processed, the item will no longer be covered under the satisfaction guarantee and also our sister policy SureFit™. Because of this we recommend you limit your replacement to the same type of product, otherwise you, the customer will assume any risks with measurements or issues for a different category replacement product when it is not already covered by warranty, unless of course the fault is ours.

Due to volume, commercial orders are not covered by this guarantee. A commercial order is any order containing 20 or more of the same product category ( eg. 20+ Roller Blinds, varying measurements on each are counted ), of tax exempt status, or delivered to a non-residential address.

Curtain Headings

Pinch pleat is very popular and suitable for all fabric types. When the curtains are drawn the pleats stack back neatly, creating tailored folds and the pleats are pinched in-groups with spacing approximately 10cm apart. This style can be used if you have an existing Curtain track or rod.

Eyelet curtains are a contemporary curtain heading for use with curtain poles. Eyelet heading gives large even soft pleats and get their name from the metal rings at the top of the curtain in place of a normal header tape. This header type can only be used with Curtain Rods and not tracks. We don’t currently supply Eyelet rods, so you must source your own Curtain Rod for use with your eyelet curtain purchase.

A Pencil Pleat is similar to a gathered curtain in that a heading tape of one or multiple rows can be applied to gather the fabric into pencil style pleats. The main difference is the heading tape creates a neater and more stable pleat. Multiple rows also offer more flexibility with hook positions providing greater control over where the heading sits in relation to the rod or track.

Custom Mid Rail Point

If you would like to cover your horizontal window frame mullion or any object with a dividing rail, and have the shutter with less ‘visual clutter’, then we recommend that you enter the height you require for the dividing rail, otherwise your shutter will be provided with evenly spaced Mid Rails. Measure from the bottom of your original measurement to the centre point of the mullion. The Mid Rail height may still vary slightly due to the equation of drop height x amount of slats. You should also take into account line of sight and depth of window, if the mullion or point you are trying to cover is closer to the floor then you would see over the Mid Rail at standing height, it would be worth in this case to try place the Mid Rail slightly higher. Make sure this measurement is in mm’s.

Mid Rail

Mid-rails provide strength through the panel, and are required when panels exceed certain heights. They also provide definition to the panel. Typically, a mid-rail will also be the point at which groups of blades are separated, meaning blades above or below the rail will operate independently.

Mid-rails take the place of a blade in the panel, and can be used to line up with door handles or to cover mullions to provide a cleaner look.

Panel Configuration

No need to worry, we’ll only show you the correct combinations based off the width you entered, all you have to do is choose one of them that you would like the most. Below is an explanation of what each configuration is.

We highly recommend having as few panels as possible, the fewer panels you have the more control you have over the light, it also provides a much nicer fit. Fewer panels equals less hinges and less gaps between panels. Not only does this mean less light can leak through, it also means better thermal protection.

Double Hinged

This style has one shutter hinged directly off the other shutter so that they can open and fold back into the room without taking up much space, they also do not need to be operated on a bi-fold track. The downside to this type of shutter is you will end up having more panels as the width of each individual double hinged panel cannot exceed 425mm, however some people prefer this slimmer look.

Standard Hinged

This configuration offers individual panel widths of up to 900mm on Basswood and 850mm on PVC Shutters, at widths over 1700mm for PVC and 1800mm for Basswood a ‘T Post’ is a must to ensure the strength of the shutter frame, we will also now only show standard hinged combinations at these dimensions to ensure the strength of the frame. Standard Hinged Shutters account for the vast majority of our orders. Any ‘Centre Opening’ configuration has Standard Hinged Shutters fixed onto the left and right side of the frame or T-Post, they open outwards Left and Right.

Tilt Rod

The hidden tilt rod is placed at the back and to the very side so it is not visible

Traditional Tilt Rod

The traditional tilt rod is a look some people prefer, the rod is placed over the front of the slats in the centre, visible for all to see.

Protruding Window Sill?

A Protruding Window Sill extends beyond the wall surface out into the room

I have a Protruding Window Sill (Yes)

If you answered YES we will provide you with a 3 sided Z-frame (Left, Top, Right, and an L-shaped Bottom frame that will sit flush on the bottom of your window sill). A 3 sided frame is only used when using a Z-Frame recess fit with a protruding window sill. This is because for window sills that protrude out into the room, the z frame lip cannot wrap around it.

Frame & Mount Type

Recess L-Frame

You should use this option if you have timber architraves around your window and enough depth in the recess to fit your shutters. We will provide packing shims to ensure the shutter L Frame sits level inside the reveal, the gaps can then be effortlessly filled with decorators caulk so there is no light seeping in around the outside frame edge.

Recess Z-Frame

The Z-Frame is very generous in allowing for out of square windows as the lip curves around the opening of the window blocking any potential light gaps. You should choose this method every time if you have no window architraves (timber frame around your window) and enough depth.

Face L-Frame

Use this option if you have obstructions within the recess, and not enough depth.

Optional Skyline Fascia

Our Skyline Fascia comes in four colours and can only be made together when ordering your Roller Blind. It comes with it’s own brackets for the Roller Blind. It can be fit inside the Recess and also outside on a Face Mount, as it has its own side covers. The Fascia is a different product to our custom made Pelmets.

What can it be used for?

The Skyline Fascia is used to hide the roller hardware at the top, providing a much more finished look.

Don’t worry, you won’t have to make any adjustments to your measurements to accommodate for the Fascia, we’ll handle that for you.

Base Rail Colour

You may wish to choose a colour here to best match your fabric, or your interiors and room surroundings. You can also choose to make a statement by using contrasting colours on the base rail.

The bottom rail on each panel will have a square rail that is the same as the rail at the top of the panel (The Top Rail is hidden by the Fascia Box)

Bottom Back Aluminium Base Rail Colour

The Screen or Light Filter fabric will always go on the bottom back bracket. Choose the Aluminium Base Rail Colour to best match your fabric and interior.

Bracket Covers

Bracket Covers slide onto the end brackets of your Roller Blind. They are used to hide the brackets on face mounted blinds only as there is no need for them inside the recess. The bracket covers are colour matched to your bracket and component colour that you chose earlier. If you are ordering our Custom Made Pelmets, there are no need for these as the blind will be covered.

Top Front Aluminium Base Rail Colour

The Blockout fabric will always go on this top front (to the room) bracket. Choose the Aluminium Base Rail Colour to best match your fabric and interior.

Chain Colour

The Metal Chain is the most common chain colour chosen and will go with everything, use this option is you are unsure. Picking your chain colour is purely personal preference. You may wish to use any of the coloured plastic chains to better match your interior and fabric colour.

Roll Direction

With our ultra slimline brackets we’ll only show you the relevant option based off your selection of Recess or Face Fit.

For Recess Fit, we make both blinds as over roll configuration in order to clear all obstructions.

For Face Fit, we like to place the bottom blind as an under roll, in order to have the fabric sit closest to the wall to provide the best light block.

We’ll always place the blockout fabric on the top front bracket as a over roll.

Base Finish

Choose the finish at the bottom of your Roller Blind.

Fabric Wrapped Base Rail

This is a premium finish for a more luxury look at only $12/m

Aluminium Base Rail

The Aluminium Base Rail provides a nicer finish, it is our recommended finish and comes as standard on all of our Roller Blinds. The weight of the base rail also prevents puckering of the blind.

Choosing Remote

1 Channel

The 1 Channel remote will control all blinds on the same channel. You can only control all blinds at the same time with this remote.

11 Channel

With the 11 Channel remote, you can configure your blinds better. You can control All Blockout Blinds in room one on Channel 1, All Blockout Blinds in room two on Channel 2, All Screen Blinds in room one on Channel 3, etc.

Choosing Motor

The Motolux Battery Motor

This motor type is run on a battery wand, it is perfect for DIY Roller Blinds as there is no need for an electrician to install it, and no wires that need to be passed. They are limited to Roller Blinds under 2500mm in width, and they cannot used on linked blinds. This motor is controlled via remote.

The Motolux Hardwired Motor

This motor type is run on the mains electricity. It will need to be installed and passed by a licensed electrician. This motor can support up to 3 linked blinds at 6m in total width. Basically there are no limits with this motor. This motor is controlled via remote.

The Motolux C-Bus Motor

This motor type is specifically designed to be connected to existing home automation systems (C-BUS systems). It will not work with any remotes, and will need a licensed electrician to connect it to the mains, as well as configure it with your c-bus system.

Bracket & Component Colour

This is purely personal preference, however it’s best to choose a colour similiar to your fabric choice.

You may wish to also match your interiors and surroundings better.

White is the most common colour chosen for all of our lighter fabrics.

Roller Blind Link System

Our Link system for Roller Blinds was designed to allow for multiple Blinds to be controlled using a single motor or chain control operation, with an added benefit of achieving minimal gaps between each Blind.

Traditional ‘Butted Blinds’ have a larger gap due to the need for two brackets between each Blind, but with linked Blinds there is only one intermediate bracket.

Linking Blinds is also essential to achieve widths greater than the max width of a single Roller Blind at 3000mm.

Linking Blinds is great for longer width sliding doors or larger width windows. You can also operate them independently, allowing you to open one Blind to use your door or window without having to open all of them.

Gap between Linked Blinds: 17mm

Gap between non Linked Blinds (Butted Blinds): 30mm+

How to order using our Link system

You must add each individual Blind that is going to be linked to your cart separately

To do this follow these steps:

Follow Measuring Instructions (There is a section on how to measure for Linked Blinds on the measuring page), and write down the measurements you will use for each Linked Blind
Tick the ‘Linking Blinds’ check box on each Blind that are going to be linked together
Choose whether you are linking 2 or 3 Blinds together in total
Choose the control settings and control configuration (Left / Right hand chains, or Motorised)
State which Blind that it is in order of arrangement out of all the Linked together Blinds (eg. Left, Middle, or Right) for our reference
Enter the widths of the other Blinds that you will eventually add to your cart so we can easily cross reference them on your order
Make sure you use the same settings for the ‘control configuration’ step on each product, this also applies if you are motorising your Blinds as we split the cost of the motors evenly across all of the products that are linked

Choosing Roll Direction

Under Roll (Standard)

This is the most common option where the fabric rolls back, having it as close to the glass as possible. Having it roll this way will block the most amount of light and afford the most privacy.

The downside for an Under Roll is that the roll and hardware show – a look some people don’t like. If you choose a fabric with a coloured backing this would show at the top of the roll, although most of our fabrics have same colour backing or a colour coordinated backing. The ? Tooltip associated with each fabric range will show what colour the backing is. If you are using a fabric with a white coloured backing, there are some remedies such as Over Rolling (Reverse Rolling) your blind, or ordering one of our custom made pelmets as this provides a more finished look.

All of our under rolled blinds have extra fabric added to the drop so that when wound all the way down will never show the raw aluminium tubing.

Over Roll (Reverse Roll)

A Over Roll or Reverse Roll, means the fabric comes over the front of the roller so you do not see it around the tubing, it creates a more finished look. The Over Roll is also good for clearing an obstruction, like a window crank or door handle because it pushes the fabric away from the glass.

Over Rolls are also used for fabrics that have two different colours on each side.

All custom-made products are warranted to be free from manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. This warranty includes all materials, mechanisms (cord locks and tilts gears) and components (brackets, wands, caps, etc.) which make up the blind or shade. In the event a MyDirectBlinds.com.au custom-made product is found to be defective in materials or workmanship, or we have made the product at incorrect measurements than what you supplied – we will, at our discretion, repair, or replace the product which fails to conform to this warranty. You must have received your product to qualify for this policy. Original Product must be returned to MyDirectBlinds.com.au, shipping costs are to be covered by the customer – please keep original packaging for easy shipment. Prior authorization with MyDirectBlinds.com.au is required for replacement products. Limit one replacement per product, 3 per lifetime of customer. Replacement must be for the same window with no large disparity in measurements (Different products require minor changes in measurements). Once you’ve had a replacement processed, the item will no longer be covered under the satisfaction guarantee and also our sister policy SureFit™. Because of this we recommend you limit your replacement to the same type of product, otherwise you, the customer will assume any risks with measurements or issues for a different category replacement product when it is not already covered by warranty, unless of course the fault is ours.

Due to volume, commercial orders are not covered by this guarantee. A commercial order is any order containing 20 or more of the same product category ( eg. 20+ Roller Blinds, varying measurements on each are counted ), of tax exempt status, or delivered to a non-residential address.

Choosing Recess or Face fit

A Recess Fit (Inside Mount) fits on the inside of the window casing. A Face Fit (Outside Mount) hangs on the architrave above the window, or on the wall above the window. We recommend a Recess Fit whenever possible.

What Is the right material for your window?

Both the Blockout & Sunscreen and Blockout & Light Filtering combination offer day and night time privacy.

Blockout

Blockout completely blocks all light from passing through the material, as well as some heat. Ideal for complete night time privacy, great for bedrooms to stop prying eyes and where the early rising sun may stop you from getting a full nights rest. Blockout is our most popular fabric type sold.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen will block the intensity of the light and heat coming through whilst still maintaining a view. Depending on the fabric chosen over 95% of harmful UV rays are blocked protecting your furniture and floors. Sunscreen offers great day time privacy, people are unable to see in from the outside unless there are lights on inside.

Light Filtering

Light Filtering offers great day time privacy and blocks the view whilst still allowing most of the light in to brighten the room. How much light is diffused will depend on the fabric and colour chosen, we advise you to order our free samples for testing. Light Filtering is not suitable for night time privacy as it’s possible to make out silhouettes if the lights are on inside.

Light Gaps When Recess Mounting

Another thing to consider when Recess Mounting a Roller Blind is that there is generally a small light gap of around 15-20mm on each side of the window opening to the side of the cloth to accommodate for the brackets and mechanisms.
